SSUR X SUPERPLASTIC Sanctuary Red vinyl art toy 15.5″

As part of the launch of its brand-new NYC retail location, Superplastic launched a new collection with SSUR - the Sanctuary Red vinyl art toy, an edition of only 666.

Designed by the fearless Ukrainian artist Ruslan Karablin, the new 15″ figure considers our changing values and priorities with a crucified Mickey design—referred to as ‘Murder Pants’ in Superplastic’s lore.

Passionate about sacred art and symbols, SSUR has made a name for himself even in the closed circles of fashion with "COMME DES FUCKDOWN", his parodic clothing line, and then with his eponymous streetwear brand.

In his clothes as well as in his large format oil paintings, we find the themes that obsess him: classical art, scenes from the new testament, police violence, mass trade, and more.

SSUR constantly confronts "high art" and its classical techniques with "low art" and its popular references. It plays with the symbols of our Western societies where sacred and capital are often synonymous, and the result is always striking.

While there’s no cross, Murder Pants bears a crown of thorns and apparent nails. Less is more in this case.
